TEHRAN - Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi Tuesday announced that Iranian experts are building a new generation of centrifuges.
"Our engineers are building a new generation of centrifuges, cascades of 10 or more (of the newly developed) centrifuges are being tested and we hope to announce joyful news in the future regarding the issue," Salehi said in his first press conference after being appointed as the Head of AEOI.
He explained that the centrifuge machines currently used in Iran's nuclear installations has a separation power of 2.1, while the new generation of Iran-made centrifuges enjoys a separation power of 5.
Salehi expressed the hope that Iranian experts would be able to improve the separation power of centrifuges to degree 10. "Degree 10 is achievable and the relevant requirements have even been met in this regard," he added.
Salehi also declared that Iran is due to concentrate on research and development to improve the quality of its products in the nuclear filed.
Meantime, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said in his latest report on Iran's nuclear activities and cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog agency that Iran is using home-made centrifuges.
"All machines installed to date are IR-1 centrifuges. Installation work at Units A25 and A27 is also continuing," he said. ElBaradei also reiterated that Iran's activities and machineries are under IAEA's full inspection.
"The nuclear material at FEP (including the feed, product and tails), as well as all installed cascades and the feed and withdrawal stations, are subject to Agency containment and surveillance," he underlined.
