Tehran, September 27, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Responding to some of the concerns regarding a second nuclear enrichment facility in Iran, Head of the country's nuclear body - Ali Akbar Salehi - said the new facilities were built in order to thwart threats or attacks on any of Iran's nuclear facilities. He said the new installations conform to IAEA regulations.

'Regarding the sensitivity of the uranium enrichment, it was decided that a safe place be used to protect the sensitive facilities and our human force so that the enemy would know that our nuclear activities would not stop even for a short time.' salehi said.

 

He reiterated that the new facilities are way more secure against attacks, but all other technical features remain similar to those at the much larger nuclear center - NATANZ - including uranium enrichment at 5 percent once it starts operation.

 

According to IAEA rules there is a 180 days ahead of injecting gas to the system - advance notice. Iran however reported this task almost two years ago thus cementing its full cooperation with the IAEA .

“We thought that our move would be appreciated but the reaction of the west and their media was strange,” Salehi said.
