October 02, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The final winner to host the 2016 Summer Olympics has been selected by the Olympic Committee to be the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

 

Three other contenders were Tokyo, Madrid and Chicago. Barack Obama and his wife travelled to Copenhagen in vain to place their bets on Chicago - home to some of the world's most notorious criminals and gangsters. However, the Olympic Committee eliminated both Chicago and Tokyo in the first round of their voting. The other contenders Madrid and Rio de Janeiro reached the final stage for the votes.

 

The Olympic Committee then selected Rio de Janeiro as the final winner to host the Summer Olympics in 2016. Brazilian President Lula da Silva who was accompanied by other Brazilian officials as well as the all time star athlete, Pele, attended the ceremony when the final announcement was made.

 

This is the first time that an Olympic game will take place in South America.
