Tehran, October 05, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Ali Akbar Salehi, Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency in a joint press conference with the visiting Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohamd ElBradei, said that Iran’s nuclear dossier is now a closed file.
Mr. Salehi was referring to Iran’s good standing with IAEA based on mutual cooperation within the framework of the safeguard agreements. Iran currently has one of the most transparent nuclear programs in the world and IAEA inspectors have unhindered access to related facilities.
Salehi said that in the next few weeks international inspectors would have access to a newly constructed uranium enrichment plant near the holy city of Qom. The new plant is called Fordu and it’s capable of producing variety of enriched uranium products and bi-products including those used in medicine.
The current visit by the IAEA chief is not related to the Geneva meeting between Iran and the group of 5+1 held on October 1st.
Meanwhile, Mohamad ElBradei said that he was satisfied with current level of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
During his press conference Mr. ElBradei said that the most important threat facing the region today is Israel’s possession of over 100 or so undeclared nuclear weapons.
