Kabul, October 18, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - A political crisis is brewing in Afghanistan as the incumbent President Hamid Karzai said that he will not accept the result of a recent investigation into the country’s presidential elections two month go.
The investigative team concluded there was massive electoral fraud that have taken place as a result bringing down the total votes claimed by Karzai to under %50 percent needed to win the elections.
Independent electoral observers suggested a second round of elections between Hamid Karzai and his competitor Abdullah Abdullah sometimes next month.
Meanwhile US President Obama's struggle to send additional combat troops to Afghanistan has hit a new obstacle when yesterday US Senator John Kerry said Obama must not rush for sending additional troops to Afghanistan before the results of the elections have been clarified.
The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in reaction to the latest developments in Afghanistan indicated that she expected a second round of voting to follow after the report by the investigative team.
'Whatever the ECC's recommendation is, I believe it should be followed. And if that requires a second round that is what should happen,' she said in an interview with CNN.
