Tehran October 26, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - International Atomic Energy Inspectors arrived in Tehran yesterday. They plan on visiting the Iranian enrichment facility Fordo at a site near the city of Qom.
Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Director, Ali Akbar Salehi, announced the construction of a new nuclear fuel production plant earlier in September. Iran as a signatory to Non-Proliferation Treaty, reserves the right to develop peaceful nuclear technology.
Yesterday, IAEA inspectors visited the facility and made their preliminary reports on the site. They plan to continue inspection of the facility today and tomorrow.
The Fordo facility is secondary site designed to complement the much larger facility at Natanz, under emergency situations. It will function as an enrichment plant for low degrees of uranium enrichment to be used in nuclear powered electricity generators the country is currently constructing.
