Kabul, November 01,09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah after a difficult first round of elections, on Sunday announced he would not participate in the runoff against Karzai. He said the current conditions in Afghanistan could not guarantee a fair process.
'I re-emphasize that to object the inappropriate actions taken by the government and the inappropriate actions of election commission, I will not take part in the November 7 election,' Abdullah said in a gathering with his supporters.
'Today I made a tough decision,' he said, adding, 'I consider my decision as final and conclusive.' he added.
Abdulla says a fair election would not be possible without proper transparency. 'I have not called for a boycott,' Abdullah later told a press conference in his Kabul.
During the first round Hamid Karzai initially received more than %53 of the votes. An independent international panel later discovered massive frauds in counting the ballots and reduced Karazi's votes to less than %50.
There are plans for a second round of elections in the next few days across Afghanistan.
