Tehran, November 06, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Mohamad ElBaradei said Iran’s new enrichment plant near Qom is in fact designed as an emergency site whenever there is a situation in which the current process at Natanz could be halted, temporarily.
He said inspectors from IAEA found ‘…nothing to be worried about’ in their inspection of the facility nearly two weeks ago.
ElBaradei described the secondary facility as a hole in a mountain, which serves as a backup enrichment site in case the main facility at Natanz comes under attack by Israel or the US. ‘This is exactly what the Iranian nuclear officials were saying all along.’ He noted.
The latest revelation by ElBaradei has caused angers amongst Israelis who claimed that the site had no civilian use. Some Israeli officials agreed though that the existence of a secondary site would make it harder for anyone to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program.
In other developments on Iran’s nuclear issue, Iranian FM spokesman blasted German Chancellor’s remarks on Iran’s nuclear issue. Ramin Mehmanparast described Merkel’s remarks being under the influence of Zionist lobbies and against Germany’s national interests.
He reminded Merkel that Iran is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and IAEA has repeatedly described Iran’s nuclear issue to be peaceful.
