Tehran, November 07, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Leading Iranian law maker and Head of the parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi announced Iran's decision on fuel supply exchange for Tehran research reactor.
Mr. Boroujerdi thus rejected Western offer to swap its low-enriched uranium in exchange for higher enriched uranium for use at Tehran reactor.
"Giving the 3.5 percent enriched uranium to receive 20 percent enriched fuel for Tehran's research reactor whether gradually or all at once is called off," Boroujerdi said.
"Iran is not to give any of its 1200 kilograms fuel to the other party to receive 20 percent (enriched) fuel and whether gradually or at once, this will not be done and is called off." He added.
The latest proposal sought to deliver Iran's LEU to Russia and then to France for completion of its processing into %19.75 enriched uranium for use in Tehran reactor.
Paris has a bad track record and has proven to be an unreliable partner when it comes to supplying nuclear fuel to Iran since they have repeatedly broken their contracts time and time again. For this reason Iranians find the French as an undependable party to count on providing nuclear fuel when the country should need it.
The latest decision was the most expected and logically coherent approach by Tehran, which has worked hard to develop a fully indigenous peaceful nuclear program independent from Western monopolies over scientific and technologic matters.
