November 10, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Why is the US so supportive of the Israeli occupation of Palestine? The Obama administration repeatedly betrayed the majority against the minority of those who support Israel on international scene.
This has severely damaged US credibility as an honest broker between Palestinians and Israelis. Because the United States is just so incapable of performing its role as such, it is best if stays on the sidelines and let others take the initiative.
Conflict in the occupied Palestine started when after the WWII a mass exodus of European Jewish population to the region began. The idea however goes back to 1800 Europe. The Jewish elites at the time belonged to exclusive class of citizens within the European heartland. They were industrialists, scholars and financiers holding enormous weight in Europe during that time.
After the outbreak of the first and second world wars, the Jewish minorities in Germany and elsewhere, won support of the Anglo-American effort to control the international affairs.
Britain, issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917, promising a homeland to the Jewish people in Palestine. The Jewish migrants slowly expanded their stay in Palestine through military means receiving full supports from the allied axis ever since.
The Jewish territory in the occupied Palestine expanded from mere %6 in the early days to over %60 in just a few years by help from the Western powers. Israel’s latest war on Gaza population last year killed thousands of children, women, and elderly. It wounded many more, permanently.
Nearly after a year from the Israeli offensive on Gaza, the situation remains appalling. Only yesterday, a senior U.N. official said that thousand of Gazans have lost their homes due to Israeli three-week bombardments. The homeless Gazans could face the winter in cold and rain unless help arrives. Israeli blockade on Gaza has made the situation even more calamitous.
According to estimates nearly 20,000 Gaza residents became homeless after the offensive. Some 3,500 homes destroyed, 2,800 homes badly damaged and around 53,000 others sustained other damages.
