November 10, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili underlined Iran’s resolve to continue on its progress in peaceful nuclear energy.
The Secretary of the country’s supreme national Council (SNSC) speaking at the Qom Seminary in Qom city said, ‘Through the adopted measures, now the path is closed for certain powers to make excuse on Iran’s nuclear issue and the country will powerfully continue its path of progress for employment of peaceful nuclear energy and confront any threats.’
"Those who one day said you must shut down and dismantle your nuclear facilities, now are calling for interaction with Iran on nuclear issue," Jalili added.
In a related development on Iran’s nuclear issue, Parliament’s national Security and Foreign Committee rapporteur Kazem Jalili said the proposed exchange of uranium fuel, if any, should take place in Iran.
Western countries seek to take a large part of Iran’s low-enriched uranium out of the country until such a day in the future where they would send back higher enriched uranium for use in Tehran's small reactor. Tehran however proposes purchasing the nuclear fuel under IAEA safeguards from foreign producers.
Other Iranian senior officials including Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, have strongly criticized the proposed nuclear fuel exchange idea, saying this kind of transaction is neither logical nor legal.
According to international regulations, IAEA member countries are entitled to receive nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes under the Non-proliferation safeguards.
