Hamedan, Nov. 12, 09 - An international conference is being held on the life and works of the great Persian philosopher – scientist, Abu Ali Sina also known as Avicenna now under way in Hamedan, Iran.
The festival will honour the importance of Avicenna as a world scholar and scientist. Experts on the subject from 17 countries will participate in the festival.
In the course of this event a 48-selected articles will be presented to the panel from among 116 received by the organizers. The festival will also offer a 100,000-dollar cash award to the scholars active in the area at the end of the event.
Avicenna or Abu Ali Sina in Persian was born in the year 980 AD near Bukhara in today’s Uzbekistan. He manifested his genius from early age when he learned Koran, Arabic grammar and literature. He later mastered all known sciences of that time to the point when he was presented to court of Samanid ruler Nuh Ibn Mansour to treat the ailing king. Avicenna’s successful treatment of the king made him famous across the land of Persia and beyond.
Avicenna wrote many books on science, religion and philosophy. Two of his most important works are Shifa (The Book of Healing) and Al Qanun fi Tibb (The Canon of Medicine).
Avicenna died in 1037 in Hamadan, Iran.
