Tehran, Nov. 17, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Top Iranian lawmaker said Russian nuclear official’s hasty announcement regarding the Bushehr nuclear power plant sounded very strange.
The National and and Foreign Policy Committee chairman, Alaedin Boroujerdi, made the remarks after Russia unexpectedly announced that it can not complete the Bushehr plant on time.
‘The hasty remarks by the Russians do not seem normal,’Boroujerdi said in an interview with the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.
This isn’t the first time Russia is dragging its foot by delaying the launch of the project. Russia’s head of state nuclear corporation Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko announced last Feburary the Bushehr plant should become operational by the end of 2009 at the latest.
However, Kiriyenko changed his forecast on Tuesday saying that it will not be possible to start up the plant according to schedule.
“The engineers have to reach their findings,” Reuters quoted him as saying. “The building of the Bushehr station is defined absolutely 100 percent by technological conditions.”
In reaction to Kiriyenko’s announcement Boroujerdi said the Russian officials’ comments are quite strange because Russia has already conducted a test run of the Bushehr power plant and found everything in order for a timely implementation of the project.
In late February 2009, Iranian and Russian nuclear officials carried out a test run of the nuclear power plant, which is located just outside the Persian Gulf port city of Bushehr.
