Nov. 22, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The military wing of Hamas movement vows revenge against Israeli air strikes early this morning. The Israeli air force attacked homes on Gaza strip wounding 10 Palestinians, mainly civilians.
"The Israeli escalation will not be ignored and Ezz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades will not fail to take actions," said Abu Obaida, a Hamas spokesperson. "We will defend ourselves with all means possible and we will counter any new offensives," he Obaida added.
Israeli air strikes aimed at disrupting the transportation tunnels dug under ground from Gaza strip to Egypt. Palestinians use those tunnels to import their every day necessities including food and medicine. Aerial strikes took place near the town of Rafah close to the Egyptian border.
Shortly before the strikes, Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hammad announced, 'Hamas would temporarily halt its rocket attacks at Israel to avoid retaliation.' But he emphasized,‘ … this doesn’t mean that the hands of resistance are shackled to respond to the Zionist aggression.’
"The agreement to halt the rockets doesn't mean we are weak; it is to maintain the internal and external fronts and the higher interest of the Palestinian people," Abu Obaida said.
Israel maintained that it took the action in response to the firing of a Qassam rocket at the city of Sderot, Sunday morning. However, the stated rocket attack caused no casualty or damage, and no one has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
