Zelaya Posed to Reject Elections Results
Nov. 27, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) – Jose Manuel Zelaya Honduran popular President who was ousted by a military junta regime says the US administration is supporting the de facto regime of the Putchists. He said given these circumstances he will not recognize the result of the upcoming elections to be held within two days.
Zelaya speaking in an interview with Brazilian UOL Noticias website said, ‘…the United States is not only supporting the elections it is also supporting the de facto regime of dictators, the Putschists’ regime.’
Jose Manuel Zelaya was ousted from power by a military coup on June 28, and since September returned to his country under the protection of the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa. Brazilian diplomatic mission confirmed that Zelaya is welcomed to stay at the Embassy for as long as it is necessary.
Zelaya reiterated, ‘if a dictatorship promotes, runs, coordinates and election, it becomes illegal. It is a precedent that had never been set in Latin America, which already witnessed 80 coups, but they culminated in a new Constitution, not in an illegitimate call for elections, like this.’
He also said the upcoming elections’ results will not be recognized since under a military dictatorship the rule law is meaningless.
