Demonstrators Demanded an End To Casino Style Capitalism
Nov. 29, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - More than 3000 anti-capitalism people staged demonstrations in Geneva, Switzerland calling for an end to capitalist system ruling the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Saturday.
The march started peacefully when all of a sudden some groups vent their anger by damaging hotels, shop windows and set fire to cars parked on the side of streets. Swiss police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets against the demonstrators. Marchers carried banners saying ‘Stop Capitalism, No WTO’, ‘WTO is enemy of the climate’ and ‘We will not sell our souls to the multinationals.’
A young demonstrator said, ‘…they understood people's anger as the crisis had hit them very hard,' an elderly woman said that global economic turmoil gave people a lot to be angry about.
WTO over the years has gradually turned into a global club for ruling elites. Members hold pure capitalistic and free market economy visions and one of their main feature is that they are financially gifted. Those ideas are mostly supported by an American version of how the world economy should run and that would be very similar to a global casino with too much excitements for both the elites and the poor.
US rulers became bolder after the break up of the former Soviet Union and pushed for further expansion of their own ideas about capitalism under the Neocons to the four corners of the world. Casino style global economy hit a wall last year when the big bubble finally burst, binging untold misery, unemployment, homelessness, crime, hunger and more to people living in industrial nations as well as the rest in the form of a global recession.
Yesterday's demonstrations in Geneva against the very existence of the WTO is a reminder that people in Central Europe would under no circumstances succumb to capitalists' controlling of their lives like the way it was before the start of the French Revolution in 1789.
