The Vote Against Iran Was Unjustified
Tehran, Nov. 30. (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki blasted the IAEA board of governors for their positive vote against Iran during the Friday meeting in Vienna and said Iran would continue with its nuclear program.
Mottaki in a press conference with the visiting Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko today said, ’…if it is right to have peaceful nuclear program then what’s the reason behind these oppositions?’
The IAEA passed the resolution with twenty-five members under pressure from the West voted in favour, three against and one abstained. It called on Iran to immediately halt its enrichment program, stop construction of the secondary site at Fardow and give unhindered access to any site the IAEA is suspicious about.
Iran provided full disclosure of the Fardow site to the inspectors well in advance before it becomes operational in two years. In this respect Mottaki said, ‘ Those who voted must explain a lot because (we) did not find any reason for this resolution.’ And added, ‘…this is wrong. We responded at the proper time and the measures taken by the IAEA board of governors have weakened the international body and we are worried for the that agency and the United Nations Security Council.’
Interestingly, the Russian Energy Minister, whose country voiced support for the resolution did not want to be drawn into the matter. Shmatko said, ‘I do not want to talk about this issue here as what were discussed today was economic and trade relations and this would be different from decisions made by the international organization.’
The Energy Minister said he is optimistic about the future and hoped the issue would arrive at a peaceful solution.’
