Tehran Plans to Upgrade Centrifuges
Tehran, Dec. 01, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - An Iranian government official said today that Tehran plans to upgrade its stocks of centrifuge machines in order to increase efficiency at Natanz enrichment facility.
Supreme national Security Council (SNSC) Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Ali Baqeri announced Iran would boost the quality of those machines currently installed at Natanz.
He explained that at this time Natanz enrichment complex has 7,000 centrifuges installed and soon as many as 25,000 more centrifuge machines would be ready for installation. Iranian production facilities are also assembling 52,000 additional units for future installation.
"We are seeking to promote the quality of centrifuges as the type of these centrifuges is more important than their number," Baqeri said attending a press conference at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, today. Fars News Agency reported.
According to Baqeri, Natanz site is large enough to hold more than 50,000 centrifuges and Iran is determined to upgrade those units in the near future.
This comes at the time when IAEA’s board of governors passed a resolution last Friday calling on Iran to halt its enrichment program, stop construction of Ferdow plant and allow open access to every site or installations the agency has doubts about.
Iran however dismissed the resolution and vowed to continue on with its peaceful nuclear program that happens to enjoy extensive popular support amongst Iranians according to latest findings.
