No Amount of Sanctions Could Work
Tehran, Dec. 02, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian President Mahmaoud Ahmadinejad speaking in an interview on national Iranian TV last night said Western threats of tougher sanctions against Iran would fail before it starts since global relations and Middle East’s uniqueness would prevent any such attempts.
He said those who speak of isolating Iran are either ignorant or arrogant, because in an era of globalization, antiquated measures like embargoes are doomed to failure.
Western powers have been threatening Iran with severe economic sanctions for some years now. They seem to ignore the fact that Iran is not Germany during the 30’s nor is it Iraq under Saddam Hussein.
One of Iran’s major advantages is its geographic location. On this Ahmadinejad says, ‘Iran enjoys unprecedented geographical position in the Middle East as one of the most important regions in the world by its economic, geo-strategic position, cultural and historical conditions.’ It is a cradle of faith, centre of energy and a crossroad connecting East and West, he added.
According to Ahmadinejad, any country, that wishes to play a more decisive role in global relations, should first have an effective presence in the Middle East to start with.
In this way, Iran’s position in the Middle East has always been undeniable, from the earliest times in human history. Ahmadinejad said, ‘… any country that wants to have a global role, should come to the Middle East and so needs Iran.’
Ahmadinejad explained how the era of hegemonic powers was over and how increasingly the global relations stood outside Western and arrogant powers’ sphere of influence. ‘Iran and many other countries do not accept the system of dominance in the world. The literature and the influence of the hegemonic powers are on the brink of collapse. They have power but lack common sense and cannot do anything, the president said.’ He concluded.
