Taliban Vowed to Boost Attacks
Dec. 03, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - After the latest news on Barack Obama making his decision to dispatch thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan, Taliban issued a statement vowing to reciprocally increase attacks on U.S. forces in that war-torn country.
According to AFP the Taliban spokesperson Yousuf Ahmadi in a statement said ‘… such moves would provoke stronger resistance… Obama will witness lots of coffins heading to America from Afghanistan.’
’This is a colonizing strategy which is securing the colonizing interests of American investors, and it shows that America has dirty plans not only for Afghanistan but for the region,’ the statement read. Taliban spokesperson emphasized that the US cannot achieve any of its goals and will withdraw shamefully.
Just the other day US President somehow came to the conclusion that increasing number of US troops to one hundred thousand in Afghanistan would help win the war against 100 or so individual Al-Qaeda members supposedly still in southern Afghanistan.
Such huge force, which has been engaged in the so-called war against terrorism since Sept. 11, 2001, seems a strange course of action against a shadowy group like the Al-Qaeda. Based on latest reports, only 100 or so members of Al-Qaeda still live in parts of Afghanistan and most likely other members are scattered around the world. The question then remains, whom these one hundred thousand US troops are supposed to fight against?
There are currently 110,000 US and multinational troops in Afghanistan and they haven’t been able to bring stability to the country. Nearly 900 US troops have been killed so far and if the Taliban increases their attacks on US forces only more casualties should be expected in the months ahead.
