Majlis set to Review ties with Yes-Voters to IAEA Resolution against Iran.
Dec. 03, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Parliament speaker Ali Larijani on the sideline of a meeting in the northern province of Mazandaran, said the Parliament’s national Security and Foreign Policy commission would soon review Iran’s ties with those states that voted against the country during last Friday’s meeting of the IAEA board of governors.
Larijani said the passing of the resolution was not ‘logical’ and that the commission was investigating the latest anti-Iran move ‘carefully.’
Last week 35 members of the governing board of the IAEA met to discuss Mohamad El Baradei’s latest report on Iran. They held a vote in which 25 countries voted yes, six countries abstained and three countries voted no to the draft resolution. Cuba, Venezuela and Malaysia gave no votes while Brazil, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt and South Africa abstained. Azerbaijan quit the meeting before the voting began.
Larijani emphasized that nearly 200 out of 290 members of the Parliament voiced their protest against the resolution and, therefore the commission is currently studying the situation closely.
The IAEA vote which was labeled as a politically motivated action by Iranian officials, called on Iran to cease all enrichment activities, stop construction of Ferdow nuclear site and provide full access to every site the IAEA and its pressure groups deem as suspect.
Iran immediately rejected the resolution. Moreover, Tehran yesterday announced it is going ahead with its enrichment program at 20% to produce fuel suitable for Tehran rector, which produces medical radioisotopes.
