Tehran to Cooperate with the IAEA within the regulations
Tehran, Dec. 05, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEO) said Iran would need 20 enrichment plants that have same outputs of enriched uranium as Natanz facilities currently in action. Ali Akbar Salehi in an interview with Iran’s English language Press TV said on Friday, ‘We are in need of 20 thousand megawatts that means 20 times the amount the Natanz facility can produce.’
‘Now the government has decided to have ten sites with the same size as Natanz; of course when I say with the same size as Natanz it is concerning the amount of fuel that is produced and it is about thirty times speedier [than Natanz]. Every site will be producing [fuel] thirty times speedier [than Natanz] which is enough for one nuclear power plant,’ he added.
He expressed Iran’s willingness to cooperate with the IAEA and not interested in pulling out of NPT. He said the IAEA board of governors passed a purely political resolution against Iran despite Tehran’s cooperation with the international inspectors visiting Ferdow site near Qom. ‘It (the move) will not really disturb us to the extent that they think would make us relent to their wishes,’ Salehi noted while also advising the West against any confrontational attitudes towards Tehran which could lead to ‘unknown consequences.’
Also, yesterday an Iranian nuclear expert and a former Ambassador to Italy, Abolfaz Zohrevand in an interview with IRNA said Iran would only inform the IAEA about its new enrichment sites 180 days prior to injection of UF6 into their systems. He noted Tehran is willing to act exactly within the framework of the IAEA like every other member of the agency.
Western powers have been at loggerheads with Tehran over its peaceful nuclear program. They charge Iran is building secret facilities in order to produce nuclear weapons but Iran denies the charge. The IAEA has over the years inspected the country’s nuclear facilities and found absolutely no evidence of any diversions.
It isn’t clear how long the Western powers intend to continue their contradictory approaches and what they expect to get out of such smearing campaign against Iran?
As a member of the IAEA Iran cooperated in good faith with that agency over the years but it also intends to pursuit its nuclear program without a stop.
