People Shouted 'Evo Tambien, Evo Tambien'
Dec. 07, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Bolivians hit the voting stations across the country with their hope of re-electing their favorite President Evo Morales for another five-year term.
Final results of the elections haven’t been announced yet but it is expected Morales will win at least 63 percent of the vote against 35 percent for the other candidate the former governor Manfred Reyes Villa who as a right wing businessman encourages building better relationship with the US.
The popular President Evo Morales however carries national agendas including health and prosperity for all Bolivians irrespective of their reliance on outside powers. Morales yesterday delivered a speech to thousands of his supporters saying, ‘Brothers and sisters, we now have an enormous responsibility ... Your vote won't be in vain,’ as people shouted ‘Evo Tambian, Evo Tambien’ that is Evo again.
Most Bolivians strongly support Morales’ nationalization program. During his first presidential term Evo Morales nationalized key sectors of the economy particularly the natural gas industry. He also distributed cash payments to over 2.5 million Bolivians in order to increase their purchasing power.
In the past several years Latin America has witnessed a resurgence of Latin American nations opposing Washington’s interventionist policies in that region. Morales alongside Hugo Chavez of Venezuela form a strong block that focus on regional issues and future developments.
