Israel Serves as a Military Base for US in Middle East
Dec. 10, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Top international academic Noam Chomsky says the world must fear more from US and Israel than Iran. The American intellectual and leading critic of US imperialism stressed that Iran is working well within the NPT regulations at a lecture at Boston University entitled ‘Obama, The middle East and the Prospect of Peace’ on Tuesday.
‘All states [must] resolve their conflicts within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Who was that resolution directed at? Nothing in the resolution relates to Iran. Iran is not threatening the use of force, and as far as anyone knows, they are staying within the bounds of the treaty,’ Said Chomsky.
Chomsky added that the resolution in fact was directed at the United States and Israel because the two always resort to the use and threat of force against independent countries whenever they get a chance. He explained there has been extensive western media campaign to demonize Iran as a threat to world peace for some years now.
On the issue of Israeli relationship with the US government, Chomsky described such relationship as, ‘Israel is essentially a US military base, the US positions weapons there, that's a very close military and intelligence tie,’ the Jewish academic told Press TV on Wednesday.
It is an open secret, since the end of the Second World War and establishment of the State of Israel with direct support from the West, Tel-Aviv has been more than willing to perform its role as a military arm of Western powers against Middle Eastern countries that besides holding enormous oil wealth, occupy the most prized strategic location between Eurasia and Africa.
