Sejil II has longer range than Shahab III missile
Dec. 16, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Today, Iran test- fired its latest version of the ‘Sejil-II’ missile at a remote desert location in central Iran. The launching of the missile was broadcasted on national television network in the presence of Defense Minister General Ahmad Vahidi.
Few months ago, Iranian defense specialists test-fired a basic version of the same missile and during a short period they were able to fine-tune the ‘Sejil-II’ missile into one of the most powerful of its kind in the country’s defensive arsenal.
The latest version has additional features that makes it more unique compare to other medium to longer-range missiles. Those are:
- Greater agility and accuracy.
- Faster trajectory and re-entry phases.
- Anti-radar coating makes the missile more difficult to detect.
- Faster launch time.
An Iranian specialist Kiyan Nader Mokhtari in an interview with Press TV provided more detail about the updated version of the Sejil-II missile. He said, ‘…the engine and various fuels have been tested and the platform is now highly reliable. The latest tests to be carried out are mainly to do with the variety of warheads that it has to carry, also some of the warheads obviously have been designed to be able to evade anti-ballistic missile defenses of the enemy in actual battle conditions.’
The Iranian defense industry has been able to design and manufacture variety of missiles including Shahab III and Sejil II as well as other shot-range missiles in recent years.
General Ahmad Vahidi termed Sejil-II as a great development in Iran’s defense industry which increases the country’s technical and tactical prowess. He also added that Iran’s progress in this field is aimed at boosting the country’s defensive capabilities.
‘Iran's missile capabilities are strictly defensive and at the service of regional peace and stability. They will never be against any country,’ he stressed.
