Iran-Iraq Border Regions Enjoy Massive Oil Deposits
Tehran, Dec. 19, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran rejects a recent report on Iran-Iraq oil well dispute calling it an unprofessional and inefficient plot on the part of certain media channels.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mihmanparast dismissed such news as baseless aimed at undermining the friendly relations between the two neighbors ‘Such acts (media reports) are baseless propaganda aimed at straining the solid ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq on the verge of significant and determining developments in Iraq and its parliamentary elections,’ Mehmanparast said today in a statement.
Earlier, a media report quoted Iraq’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Haj Mahmoud as saying Iranian troops stormed the oil well number 4 located in the border regions between the two countries. Iran and Iraq are assigning a joint commission to resolve border disputes particularly after the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein’s invaded Iran in 1980 causing massive human and material damages after eight years of atrocities.
’The Islamic Republic of Iran has officially announced its readiness for a meeting between the two countries' joint commission on border issues and is still waiting for a response from the Iraqi side,’ Mihmanparast noted.
