US Policy Makers Have Failed to Adopt A Wise Strategy
Tehran, Dec. 22, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Ali Larijani Iran’s Parliament Speaker, who is attending a three-day conference on (PUOICM), Parliamentarian Union of Organization of the Islamic States, criticized American policy makers over the continuation of their failed strategies toward Iran in an interview with reporters, yesterday in Cairo.
’It seems that the Americans have an internal problem in regard to their strategy toward Iran. They have failed to adopt a unified and wise strategy on this issue,’ Larijani said and added that US officials have sent a letter to high-ranking officials in Iran, calling for direct talks, but at the same time have taken anti-Iranian measures that run contrary to the spirit of their requests for talks.
The Obama administration, since taking office, has been formulating same kinds of policies as those its predecessor. Washington on the one hand says it is willing to negotiate with Tehran and on the other wields economic and military threats against the country.
Larijani made the remarks after Pentagon's highest-ranking military official said on Monday that Washington should be ready to conduct military operations against Iran. Admiral Michael Mullen said a military strike on Iran might only buy more times as it will not stop Iran’s pursuit of its nuclear program. He said a military strike maybe possible only as the last resort.
Meanwhile, Iran’s top nuclear official Ali Akbar Salehi, Head of the Atomic Energy Agency said Tehran under no circumstances would halt construction of Fordo enrichment plant near the holy city of Qom in central Iran.
Salehi speaking to ISNA, dismissed the latest IAEA's measure against Iran in which it demanded a total halt to all enrichment activities. He said such a resolution is illegal and therefore would be ineffective to stop Iran from practicing its legitimate rights..
The nuclear official reiterated Iran’s steadfast commitments to Non-Proliferation Treaty as a member of the nuclear agency.
