Hamsayeh.Net - Japan’s crippled nuclear power plant at Fukushima disaster zone continues its emission of high levels of radioactive smokes into the environment. Latest pictures show the entire structure of reactor number 4, housing a large pool of spent fuel rods some containing plutonium, is now tilted on its one side pointing a collapse may be be inevitable.
The Japanese nuclear agency in charge of the Fukushima complex said radioactive sludge in the sewage system has increased recently. It said there are plans to ‘shore up the structure of the building near the upper floor area.’
Reactor number 4 houses a large spent fuel rods pool which for many years served as a storage tank for fuel rods from all other reactors at Fukushima. It partly contains a special mixture of uranium and plutonium with the latter recognized as a highly dangerous radioactive substance.
Aside from causing some serious environmental disaster all the way to Tokyo, Japan’s largest city, the Fukushima nuclear crisis has already dealt major blows to Japan’s reputation as an export driven economy in the eyes of the international community who would from now on have their own doubts purchasing Japanese goods of various kinds.
Despite seriousness of the nuclear catastrophe, Japan’s highly bureaucratic system of governance based on the notion of saving face under any circumstances, keeps censoring independent news reports coming out of the disaster area.
Expert believe Fukushima will spew large quantities of harmful radiations into the environment for many more years in the future, thus the entire region would have to grapple with long-term effects of this crisis.
