Iran's Ahmadinejad has unbeatable lead: results

TEHRAN  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has taken an unbeatable lead over moderate rival Mirhossein Mousavi in Iran's presidential election, figures from the state election commission released on Saturday.

 

The commission said Ahmadinejad won 18.8 million of the votes out of 28.9 million votes counted so far, compared with 9.3 million for Mousavi. Over %80 of eligible voters cast their votes across the polling stations. Meanwhile according to latest updates Ahmadinejad is in the lead with 77% of votes counted.

The Interior Ministry Election Headquarters has announced that 28,050,761 votes have been counted so far, which represents 77.13 percent of the total turnout.

 The official tally so far stands at:

 

 1. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: 18,302,924 votes (65.24 percent)

 2. Mir-Hossein Mousavi: 8,929,232 votes (31.82 percent)

 3. Mohsen Rezaii: 570,174 votes (2.3 percent)

 4. Mahdi Karroubi: 248,588 (0.88 percent)
