(Hmasayeh.Net) - According to latest reports, the Iranian Navy has deployed two warships in the Gulf of Aden to join the international efforts on providing security for shipping in this busy water way.
The waters around the Gulf of Aden have repeatedly been targeted by mainly Somali pirates from the nearby shorelines. Iran's Navy Commander, Gholam Reza Khadem, explained that 'the dispatched warships are set to replace aging vessels and protect Iranian merchants containers and oil tankers from attacks by the heavily armed pirates.'
An Iranian oil tanker was saved by the Navy after it was attacked just a week ago.
The Commander said, 'Pirates have stepped up attacks on Iranian vessels in the Gulf of Aden, so we have decided to send two more warships to patrol the area and help keep everything under control.'
He also said the international community welcomed Iran's decision to join the battle against the modern day piracy particularly in key regions like the Gulf of Aden.
