October 14, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rejected US threats for additional sanctions against Iran insisting that the main point of negotiations must focus on diplomacy and using language of threats would be counterproductive.
The Russian Foreign Minister announced this position after a meeting with the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who travelled to Moscow for the purpose of teaming up with Kremlin. Clinton hoped for cooperation against Iran but was later ripped off by Russia which has proven to be immune from a White House style 'Soap Opera' diplomacy.
On their first meeting on Oct. 1, Iran and 5+1 agreed to start talks on broader subjects including the issue of non-proliferation. They also agreed to continue talks within the next few weeks. Iran, also said it will allow international inspectors to visit the newly constructed enrichment facilities.
However, despite Iran’s outstanding cooperation with the IAEA the Obama Administration continued to press for additional sanctions and made repeated accusations against Iran of seeking nuclear weapons despite ample evidence to the contrary.
