Israel Continues its Defiant Attitude Towards the International Community

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected US’ calls for a halt to the construction of the housing units.

March 15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Pro-Israeli lobby in the US, the AIPAC warned the United States government to immediately change the course of its actions in order to ease growing tensions with Tel Aviv.

This warning comes at a time when US officials visiting Israel criticized the Israeli regime for continuing to construct 1600 units within numerous apartment blocks very close to the central parts of the ancient city of Jerusalem.

For the past several months, Israeli troops on various pretexts have evacuated Palestinian settlers in the ancient neighborhood adjacent to some of the most revered sites for believers worldwide.

AIPAC is a Israeli backed lobby highly active in the United States’ day-to-day affairs and decision-makings apparatus especially with remarkable links in the country’s congress. The AIPAC statement said, ‘the Obama administration should take immediate steps to defuse the tension with the Jewish state.’

And  again defying the will of the international community today, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected US’ calls for a halt to the construction of the housing units. ‘For the past 40 years, no Israeli government ever limited construction in the neighborhoods of Jerusalem,’ Natanyahu said as reported by Reuters.

‘There was nearly total consensus among Israeli political parties that what he called Jewish neighborhoods in and around Jerusalem would remain 'part of the state of Israel' in any future peace agreement,’ he added.

Israeli government plans to erect large housing units adjacent to historic sites in East Jerusalem.
