Arab League Summit Condemned Israeli Defiance

Amr Moussa urged Arab states to seek other alternatives.

March 27, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The world faced with Israeli regime’s outmost disregards for international rules may have to take a different course of action to resolve outstanding issues.

Such is the reaction of the Arab League chief who said the Middle East peace process may be a complete failure, urging Arab states to seek other alternatives. Amr Moussa made those comments on the first day of the Arab League Summit in the Libyan town of Sitre.

Moussa said the peace process could be considered a complete failure given Israel’s defiance to build large settlements in the occupied part of East Jerusalem. ‘We have to study the possibility that the peace process will be a complete failure,’ Moussa declared to the summit.

Amr Moussa urged the member states to face Israeli aggressiveness. ‘It's time to face Israel. We have to have alternative plans because the situation has reached a turning point,’ he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said that Israel will move ahead with the construction of 1600 or more apartment units in the ancient and historically significant parts of East Jerusalem.

UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon who also attended the Summit said the UN strongly condemned Israeli defiance. He reiterated that settlement activity is illegal and must stop. ‘My message to you is that, whatever our concerns, there is no alternative to negotiations for a two-state solution,’ he added.
