Iran Calls for Global Nuclear Weapons Disarmament

Our experts can meet the country’s domestic needs as soon as possible: Ahmadinejad.

Tehran, April 04, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of Iran and Middle East’s largest iron pellet smelting factory in southeastern city of Sirjan, yesterday.

He called on all nuclear weapon states to disarm in a bid to create an atmosphere of peace and security in the international community. ‘You wrongfully accuse Iran of working towards nuclear weapons, but in fact you are the main culprits behind gross violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Convention on nuclear disarmament,’ Ahmadinejad told the gathering at the cite of the Golgohar factory.

He went on saying that while Western powers accuse Iran over plans to make nuclear weapons, themselves break international norms by stockpiling thousands of nuclear warheads. ‘If production of a single nuclear bomb accounts for an offense, then what must be done with those who have produced tens of thousand bombs and even used them before,’ Ahmadinejad said.

The Iranian President had once again rushed aside effectiveness of the much-publicized sanctions particularly the one related to exports of gasoline to Iran. He said the country could meet all the shortfalls very quickly. ‘Our experts can meet the country’s domestic needs as soon as possible,’ the Iranian President said.

Ahmadinejad blamed Western countries for their failure to supply Iran with nuclear fuel used at Tehran medical reactor. He said they are committing violations of the Charter of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Non-Proliferation Treaty that was worked out by them.

Based on the NPT charter, nuclear states must provide other states with nuclear fuel used in medical reactors.
