Erdogan Blasts Israeli Actions Against the Palestinians

Relatively tiny but with backings from the United States, Israel issues bellicose warnings against other larger countries including Turkey and Iran every now and then.

April 06, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a stern warning at Israeli aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Monday.

The Turkish Prime Minister is known for his  vocal criticism of Israeli actions in the region. Yesterday, Erdogan said ‘ we cannot watch the murder of children in Gaza with indifference. This is not humane.’

Last year during a live TV program, Erdogan accused Israel for the genocide in Gaza and a Turkish TV show depicted Israeli Mossad agents as child-killers and kidnappers.

Turkey is considered an important ally for the US in the Middle East. Ankara has been very cooperative with the US and its ally Israel to bring a lasting peace to the Palestinian issue, but it now realizes that both Washington and Tel-Aviv are taking advantage of Turkey’s goodwill policy.

In response to Erdogan’s comment on the Turkish television, the Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, ‘Israel is not looking for confrontation with any country, including Turkey. However, it appears as though the Turkish Prime Minister is looking to integrate into the Muslim World at Israel’s expense.’

Relatively tiny but with backings from the United States, Israel issues bellicose warnings against other larger countries including Turkey and Iran every now and then. Israel has threatened to invade Iran thereby destroying the county’s nuclear facilities like the way it did against Saddam Hussein’s miniature nuclear installation at Osirak in a surprise attack code-named Operation Opera in 1981.
