Iran Celebrates New Generation of Centrifuges

Spinning 900 revolutions per second, each unit is capable of producing 10 kg of enriched uranium per year.

April 09, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - On the occasion of the country’s nuclear achievement during a ceremony Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unveiled the third generation of powerful centrifuge machines, today.

According to Ahmadinejad Iran has mastered from A to Z of the nuclear technology and it therefore no longer needs outside assistance in this field. Also attending the ceremony, Iran’s nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi provided more information on the new centrifuges’ technical specifications.

He said overall these new machines are about six times as efficient as the current machines. The new machine measure 200 mm in diameter and because of its compact size it requires less space to operate. Spinning 900 revolutions per second, each unit is capable of producing 10 kg of enriched uranium per year.

‘The devices have successfully gone through mechanical tests,’ Salehi said. Iran plans to install about 60,000 of these machines in several enrichment centers across the country.

The western powers have gotten used to playing the Iran card against other world powers by accusing the oil-rich Middle Eastern nation of aiming to build a nuclear weapon. But Tehran has proven that its domestic nuclear program is 100 percent peaceful, geared toward electricity generation and scientific progress.

The United States and its smaller ally Israel have repeatedly threatened to take military actions against Iran if the country does not give up the nuclear rights. In response to these threats,  the Iranian defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi issued a clear warning to all those seeking military adventures against Iran that Tehran is keeping all defensive options on the table against enemy plots. ‘We consider all possible defensive options open against the enemies' threats,’ Vahidi told reporters Thursday morning.

Similarly Iran's Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi told reporters ‘If the US seriously threatens Iran by taking a military action against Iran, then none of the US soldiers in the region will return to America alive.’
