US Nuclear Summit Just a Charade: Iran Says

A leader in global nuclear disarmament and a longstanding member of the NPT, Iran will hold a two-day nuclear conference titled ‘Nuclear Energy for All, Nuclear Weapons for None,’ next week.

April 10, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran labels the upcoming summit on nuclear security proposed by the US and other nuclear-armed states as a mere charade without much substance.

Today in Tehran, Foreign Ministry Spokesman conveyed Iran’s views on the summit. He said, ‘ Nuclear-armed countries seek to stage a show and thereby pretend that they are slashing their nuclear stockpiles, but in reality that’s not going to happen and the world does not believe them.’

Ramin Mihmanparast added that a global nuclear disarmament would only be possible if all the independent nations in the world were to participate in the ongoing discussions to resolve this issue. One of the outstanding issues today is the danger of nuclear proliferation and another is the threat posed by nuclear-armed states against non-nuclear armed states.

The Iranian spokesman expressed hopes that nuclear-armed countries would stop threatening other non-nuclear states and instead start paying more attention to their demands for better cooperation. ‘These countries, instead of using threats, should pave the way for all nations to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes,’ Mehmanparast added.
