New Iran Sanctions Coming Within a Month: US Vice President

US Vice President says there would be sanctions by the end of this month or beginning of next month.

Tehran, April 23, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - A top US official has issued yet another warning over Iran sanctions within a month. US Vice President Joe Biden appearing on a ABC program called the ‘talk show’ said he was certain there would be a new set of sanctions on Iran by May since major powers now support the move.

Biden didn’t exactly say what level of sanction could be implemented or whether it will include oil and gasoline exports to Iran. He said that all members agree on the next step for the U.N. sanction route. ‘I believe you’ll see a sanction regime coming out by the end of this month, beginning of next month,’ said the US Vice-President.

The move if enacted could have the potential of prolonging the status quo in the oil-rich volatile region since Iran has already made it clear that no amount of sanctions or threats could force Tehran abandon its now fully advanced nuclear program.

The US Vice President also said he believed the Israelis had agreed to temporarily halt their supposed aerial attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities until they see what the outcome of new sanctions would be.

In Iran the country’s military is staging a large military drill in the strategic waters of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway is considered the most vital energy route for Western industrial nations.
