Palestinians, Israelis Clash in East Jerusalem

Although the US is seemingly against the Israeli move on construction of apartment blocks, it won’t have enough power to pressure Tel-Aviv to stop the project

Tehran, April 25, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Palestinians in East Jerusalem holding demonstrations in Arab neighborhood clashed with Israeli troops and right-wing extremists.

Right-wing groups want to force out the Palestinians out of the area and start construction of large apartment blocks promised by Netanyahu government. There were several groups staging separate demonstrations in the ancient neighborhood.

Despite international condemnations against Israeli actions over construction of apartment blocks in East Jerusalem, the Netanyahu government is hell-bent to go ahead with the controversial project as soon as possible.

Although the US is seemingly against the Israeli move on construction of apartment blocks, it won’t have enough power to pressure Tel-Aviv to stop the project. Obama has already acknowledged that he was unable to extract a commitment from Binyamin Netanyahu freeze construction of housing units in East Jerusalem,’ as reported by Haaretz.

Israel is gradually taking over all the lands in East Jerusalem
