Angry demonstrators have made it clear that they want the government to change its decision .

May 05, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Workers across Greece plan massive walkouts against government, which seeks to impose severe austerity measures on average income earners in order to repay its ballooning debt.

Country’s transportation sectors and public services including schools, hospitals, tax offices and tourism industry will go on strike for 48 hours from today. Greece was guaranteed debt repayment assistance by the European Union and the IMF at over 140 billion euros on Monday.

But analyst complained that this amount is less than what is really needed to help calm country’s financial troubles. Working people in Greece believe their government is forcing them to pay for financial industry’s blunder.

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou is enacting sweeping cuts on bonus pay for civil servants and retirees, adding three years more to pension contributions before eligibility and rising retirement age to 65 for women.

Thousands of police and anti-riot squads stand waiting at intersections in Athens and other cities. Police says it expects demonstrations to become more ugly as angry mobs have made it clear that they want the government to change its decision.

Huge demonstrations are underway in

Greece against sweeping measures.
