Iran Warned Off US Reconnaissance Plane in the Persian Gulf

Iranian Armed Forces have the ability to sink largest of US warships including aircraft carriers which happen to be in the area: Official.

May 11, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - On Monday Iranian forces engaged in military drill in the Persian Gulf warned off a US reconnaissance plane as it approached the country’s naval forces, Fars News Agency reported.

U.S. plane quickly changed the flight path when it received warning, the report said. ’A U.S. reconnaissance aircraft which had intended to approach our operational war games left ... upon the timely warning of our air defense forces,’ Army Commander Ataollah Salehi said.

Also today in Tehran a senior Iranian MP, Seyed Ahmad Avaei member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission told FNA, that Iran has the capability to sink largest of US warships in the area.

The MP referred to Iran’s latest achievements in the field of missile technology. Iranian naval forces launched a new lethal anti-submarine torpedo yesterday during the military drill, capable of sinking largest of submarines within a short period.

The country's Armed Forces are now equipped with an array of defensive and offensive weapons which render large US ships such as nuclear powered aircraft carriers almost useless in an all out conventional war scenario, the report concludes.

Iran's high-speed torpedoes could sink largest of US warships including aircraft carriers that happen to be in the area between the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea.
