Russian Foreign Ministry said this kind of military activity on its doorstep does not promote security or develop into relationship based on trust and predictability in the region.
May 27, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - In Poland government officials and Poles welcome American patriot missile batteries, hardware and soldiers to be stationed very close to Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
The system is supposed to boost external missile threats against Europe. On Sunday, the Patriot battery arrived at Morag base in north-eastern Poland about 60 km from Kaliningrad. US-led NATO forces have so far achieved nearly complete circling of Russia’s vast territory with their bases that include defensive and offensive weapons of various types.
In reaction, Russian Foreign Ministry said this kind of military activity on its doorstep does not promote security or develop into relationship based on trust and predictability in the region. Both Poland and the United States reassure Kremlin the deployment pose no threat against Russia, but the latter is fully aware that such defensive scenario has the potential to turn into an offensive one at any time.
The US Army has yet to ship the actual missiles sometime in the future. During welcoming ceremony, Bogdan Adam Klich Polish Defense Minister said, ‘the Patriot battery has political and symbolic importance for Poland, ‘political because it's tied to Poland's security. Symbolic because American soldiers for the first time will be stationed on Polish soil for a longer period of time.’ |
Throughout its long history Russia has repeatedly experienced invasions across western frontiers with Europe
