Okinawa residents complain of US soldiers’ involvement in criminal activities including gang raping of young schoolgirls.

 

June 01, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Japanese people demand the prime minister's resignation over his too many broken promises and servitude to Americans.

 

Last week the incumbent prime minister Yukio Hatoyama backtracked on his earlier promise to remove the controversial US marine base Futenma from environmentally sensitive Okinawa Island in southern Japan. Before his election Hatoyama promised majority of Japanese that he would remove Futenma base from Okinawa right away.

 

After months of futile negotiations he decided to change his plans under pressure from US that want to stay in Okinawa. Okinawa residents complain of US soldiers’ involvement in criminal activities including gang raping of young schoolgirls. They also complain of noise, pollution and traffic on the base.

At the moment Hatoyama insists he wants to remain in his post as prime minister but party members may force him to quit soon.
