Turkey Rejects Israeli Own Probe

A defendant acting simultaneously as both prosecutor and judge is not compatible with any principle of law: Turkish Foreign Minister.

June 15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Turkish government officials on Monday dismissed Israel claim to run a commission that would investigate the illegal attack on Gaza humanitarian flotilla two weeks ago.

According to Turkish officials and based on international law, since the crime was committed in international waters, only an independent international commission would be eligible to conduct an investigation. ‘The crime was committed in international waters, not in Israeli territorial waters or on the Israeli border.

A commission to investigate an attack in international waters should have an international character,’ Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Monday. Davutglu brushed aside Israeli offer of including certain what it calls credible individuals in its own investigative team.

‘A unilateral probe conducted by Israel will have no value for us; this commission must certainly be an international commission. A defendant acting simultaneously as both prosecutor and judge is not compatible with any principle of law,’ Davutoglu said.

Turkey warned if Israel continues to resist the call for an international commission Ankara would review its ties with Tel-Aviv.

The isolated regime in Tel-Aviv, having been involved in so many heinous crimes against humanity, has decided to hit back at Turkey by boycotting sales of Turkish products in major supermarkets across Israel.

‘For reasons of ideology and conscience, it would be unacceptable for us to do anything when the Turkish people behave this way. This is the minimum that we can do.

When I see Turkey's behavior toward Israel this makes me oppose them. I want to give them a taste of their own medicine,’ Rami Levy owner of a chain of stores told local newspapers.
