Iran Warns Moscow of its Failure to Deliver S-300 System

Any move that affect long-term interests will be left in the historical memory of the Iranian nation, our cooperation with Russia must be reviewed within a long-term framework: F.M. Spokesman.

Tehran, June 16, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast expresses Iran’s dissatisfaction with Moscow’s recent anti-Iran moves particularly its failure to deliver the S-300 missile system.

The spokesman said on Tuesday, Russia’s failure to deliver the S-300 system to Iran would effect relations between the two countries. ‘Any move that affect long-term interests will be left in the historical memory of the Iranian nation, our cooperation with Russia must be reviewed within a long-term framework,’ Mihman-Parast said.

Russia’s sudden anti-Iran moves in recent months shows the tactical and short-term nature of Kremlin’s policies which are prone to be influenced by the US and other western powers. Moscow initially announced it would fulfill all its contracts with Iran, but suddenly changed its mind saying it will not be able to deliver the S-300 system because it falls under the so-called sanction regime.

Russian manufactured S-300 system is a defensive missile system designed to intercept multiple aerial targets up to several hundred kilometers in mid-air. Military analysts believe the system is more reliable than its American counterpart Patriot missiles currently being deployed all around Russia’s vast territory by NATO group of countries.
