Iran Officially Endorses Uranium Enrichment at 20 Percent Purity

I am warning the US and certain adventurous countries that in case they plan to inspect the cargo of Iranian ships and planes, they should rest assured that we will do the same in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman: Majlis Speaker.

Tehran, June 16, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian government has officially approved uranium enrichment of up to 20 percent purity at the country’s nuclear plants this morning.

The announcement made by Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larjani gives a final go-ahead to Iranian Atomic Organization for manufacturing of required fuel. Tehran’s medical reactor needs uranium fuel rods at 20 percent purity for its continuous operation.

‘Majlis calls on the government to lay the base level for its enrichment activities at 20 percent as these countries have failed to respect the NPT regulations and did not supply fuel to the Tehran Research Reactor,’ FNA quoted Larijani as saying.  Western countries have repeatedly renegade on their NPT responsibilities to provide Iran with nuclear fuel for Tehran reactor.

Such malevolent behavior on the part of the United States and its so-called allies is unprecedented in modern history and shows the degree of wickedness hidden within the very nature of US-led Western establishment willing to break every possible rule for their own political advantages. This Churchillian exercise in opportunism reminiscent of the early twentieth century, would certainly have no place in this century.

Iran has been able to overcome all hurdles in its domestic nuclear program and according to latest reports it’s now capable of producing nuclear fuel at various levels of purity depending on the needs of this strategically located oil-rich and historically important nation.

Iran conducts its domestic nuclear program at a large underground facility in Natanz and other locations throughout the country. The United Nations Security Council had just passed  another set of sanctions against Tehran in the hope of halting the nuclear program. The mostly symbolic sanctions would have no effect on a country like Iran.

Meanwhile, The Iranian Parliament speaker Ali Larijani reminded Western countries that Iran is ready to retaliate if bullying powers try to stop and inspect Iranian ships and planes. Iran has commanding lead in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman and is fully capable of controlling the traffic in those strategic regions.

‘I am warning the US and certain adventurous countries that in case they plan to inspect the cargo of Iranian ships and planes, they should rest assured that we will do the same in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman," he said. ‘This retaliation is part of our policy to protect our national interests,’ Ali Larijani added.
