Russia Complains About Iran-Bound Cargo Seizure

Germany is particularly unhappy with the launch of Bushehr since their company Simens had earlier broken its contract to built the 1000 megawatts nuclear power plant before the Russians took over.

June 29, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - An Iran bound cargo intended for Bushehr Nuclear reactor was seized by German customs on Monday, which claims it violates sanction rules against shipment of sensitive items to Iran, Reuters reported.

Russian U.N. ambassador Vitaly Churkin expressed unhappiness with the Germans saying such shipment in no way violates UN resolution and European custom officials must allow it to reach its destination. It’s not clear if stopping the shipment would delay the launch of Bushehr reactor set for official opening in August.

Calling such measure as unacceptable, Vitaly Churkin said, ‘Strict compliance with Security Council resolutions ... requires the need for member states to refrain from the use of additional limitation constraints ... especially ones of an extra-territorial nature.’ European countries have been following US line in recent years plan to step up pressures on Tehran for its peaceful domestic nuclear program.
