Humanitarian Aid Ship Will not be Allowed to Reach Gaza: Says Israel

Liberman didn’t explain why it should be impossible to check the Moldovan-flagged ship Amalthea, by taking normal procedures including the use of trained dogs to sniff illegal goods that might be onboard - if any, before the ship reaches Gaza.

July 12, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Belligerent Israeli regime is posed to once again defy the will of international community by saying it will not allow a new aid ship this time by Libya to reach Gaza because of security reasons.

The Zionist regime’s foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman issued a fresh warning on Sunday after Israeli troops showed the world how brave and well-trained they really are at attacking unarmed-sleeping Turkish civilians onboard freedom flotilla last month. ‘I say very clearly, no ship will arrive in Gaza. We will not permit our sovereignty to be harmed,’ Lieberman said on Army Radio, as reported by Reuters.

Lieberman didn’t explain why it should be impossible to check the Moldovan-flagged ship Amalthea, by taking normal procedures including the use of trained dogs to sniff illegal goods that might be onboard - if any, before the ship reaches Gaza.

Amalthea left Greece on Saturday carrying 2000 tons of necessary goods to besieged Gaza Strip. A charity group with support from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his son Saif-al-Islam organized the humanitarian mission. Earlier Israeli officials said the ship’s destination was Egypt and not Gaza, a claim which was quickly denied by the organizers and up to 10 activists onboard.

‘I hope very much that common sense will prevail and the ship will go to El-Arish, or that it will obey the Israel Defence Forces and eventually go to (Israel's port of) Ashdod,’ Lieberman said.

Youssef Sawani, executive director of the Libyan charity, said their mission was solely a humanitarian one and it is not intended to make a publicity show on the high seas or elsewhere. The ship is due to reach Gaza within the two days.
