Four More Submarines Join Iranian Naval Fleet

The mass production of this strategic vessel has been carried out with the aim of increasing the defense capabilities of the Naval Forces: Iran's Defense Minister.

Bandar Abbas, August 08, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian Armed Forces have introduced four home-made Ghadir class mini submarines in the waters of Persian Gulf during an official ceremony this morning.

The Ghadir class mini submarine weighs 120 tons and can carry torpedoes with precision targeting capabilities. Its small size also makes the Ghadir mini submarine invisible to enemy radar while in action. Iran’s defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Vahidi congratulated the country’s defense industry and hailed today’s delivery as a sign of progress in Iran’s military ingenuity.

'The mass production of this strategic vessel has been carried out with the aim of increasing the defense capabilities of the Naval Forces … and today four advanced Ghadir submarines joined the Iranian naval fleet,’ FNA reported Vahidi as saying.

Iran currently operates 11 Grader mini subs and they are performing surveillance operations in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman. In addition, the country possesses three Russian built Kilo class diesel submarines and another 500-ton Iranian-bade unit.

‘With the mass production of this submarine alongside various guided-missile launchers the country's defensive production chain is complete, and these capabilities will be used to served peace, stability and security in the Persian Gulf region and the Sea of Oman,’ Iran’s Defense Minister added.
