Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant to Come Online August 21st

The fuel will be charged in the reactor on August 21. From this moment, Bushehr will be considered a nuclear installation: Rosatom Spokesman.

August 13, 2010 - The long-awaited opening of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was announced today by the Russian atomic agency. A spokesman for the agency today said the plant will come online next week and from that moment on it can be called operational.

‘The fuel will be charged in the reactor on August 21. From this moment, Bushehr will be considered a nuclear installation,’ Russia’s Atomic Agency Rosatom spokesman Sergei Novikov said as reported by AFP. ‘This can be considered as the physical launch,’ he added.

For the past several days Iranian and Russian technicians carried out final testing including heat transfers and piping systems where all found to be operational and optimal. Once the nuclear fuel is placed inside the core of the reactor it would gradually reach the desired level necessary for electricity generation.

Russian scientists and engineers are true experts and pioneers in the field of nuclear science and construction of nuclear powers plants. The transfer and construction of nuclear power plant technology by Russia to Iran would be a hallmark in peaceful scientific cooperation between the two historic neighbors.
